| Parrotheads in action at the
Aquatic Meet. In the wake of the stormy weather brought on by Hurricane
Charley, many of the athletes didn't make it. The PHPB
were there, manning the tables and other tasks. |

The swimmers had a great time.
The weather held out with only a sprinkle of a dozen drops or so. |
 |
 |
It seems that every event I attend, one of
these athletes stands out from the crowd. Young Tiara here is a "Little Fireball", as Special Olympics Games Director
Kevin Rasnake put it. |
|
She talked at length of her
love of swimming, as well as the equestrian events. |
 |
 |
She would go on to win a couple
of gold ribbons. Special Olympics Sports Director Ryan Gilbert read the
names as Ed, Joe & Jack helped presenting the awards. |
|
All of the athletes are special
here. I don't mean to focus on one athlete that happens to stand out. Each
and every one of them got their chance in the limelight, with Parrotheads
providing ribbons and applause. |
 |
| I know that I had a good time.
These athletes live for these events and you can see it in their faces. On
this day, they truly are special. Ryan and Kevin are newcomers to the
Special Olympics. They were aided by Head Coach Tim Woods, whose daughter,
Danielle served as score sheet runner to the table. They also thanked the
Parrotheads and Washington Mutual for doing a great job as volunteers. |
